Math Contest

The math department from WSC will be hosting the 49th Annual WSC Math Contest.  The math contest is designed for students in middle-school and high school  that enjoy challenging their math skills.  The participating students will take a math exam that will be scored against other students taking the exam, participate in a game of jeopardy, and enjoy other activities which include watching a planetarium show,  completing a math scavenger hunt, or solving break-out box activities.

Check-In: 9:00am - 9:30am at Ley Theatre
Time: 9:00am - 2:45pm
Cost: $15 per student
Registration Deadline: April 25th

May register up to 2 students per test

Location: Carhart Science Building and Ley Theatre on Wayne State College’s Campus

Details:

  • Meals will be provided by WSC
    • Each student and teacher will receive a meal ticket to eat at Student Center Dining Hall located in the upper level of the Kanter Student Center.
  • Parking will be in Lot 4

Math Exams - The exams include pre-algebra, algebra, geometry, algebra 2, pre-calculus,  and calculus.  Each school can have two students signed up for each exam.  Calculators are allowed on the exams, but the students must bring their own.  We will not provide calculators.  Cell phones are not allowed to be used or to be out during the exam.   If a student is using a cell phone during the exam, that student will be disqualified. Once these exams are scored, the top ten students on the algebra, geometry, algebra 2, and pre-calculus will receive certificates with the top three receiving medals.  The  top five students on the pre-algebra and calculus exams will receive certificates with the top three receiving medals.

Jeopardy - Students will participate in the first round of Jeopardy.  Each school will be represented by a team of 4 students.  The top team from each jeopardy group will advance to the final Jeopardy round.  The first-place team will receive a prize.

Planetarium show, Breakout Box, or Scavenger hunt activities - When the students are not participating in Jeopardy, they will have the opportunity to participate in solving a Breakout Box, completing a scavenger hunt, or watching a planetarium show.
